Perfusionist
Responsible for the set-up and operation of extra-corporeal circulation equipment, such as the heart-lung machine, ECMO or any other equipment necessary during open-heart surgery or any other medical procedure in which it is necessary to support or temporarily replace a patient’s circulation or respiratory function. Additional duties would include the operation of assist devices, such as IABP, VAD, Impella, and Pacemakers, POC testing and on call for emergency response.
Education: Graduate from an accredited Perfusion education program as recognized by the AC-PE.
Certification: Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP). New graduates must complete the certification process within 2 years of hire. All Perfusionists must maintain CCP certification on an annual basis during employment.
Perfusion Assistant
Assist Perfusionists in the set up of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment under supervision. Operation and monitoring of autotransfusion equipment. Coordinate and perform lab testing procedures for blood specimens. Maintain compliance standards to ensure required and necessary quality controls for perioperative blood management. Maintain inventory, database entry, and coordinate and document equipment maintenance.
Requirements:
High school diploma. BLS certification. Peri-operative Blood Management Technologist Certification within 1 year of hire.
Autotransfusionist
Operate cell salvage equipment during surgical procedures where significant blood loss is expected, in order to recover, process and return autologous blood to the patient.
Operate PRP and BMAC equipment for the harvest and sequestration of platelets and bone marrow.
Requirements:
High school diploma. Peri-operative Blood Management Technologist Certification within 1 year of hire. BLS and phlebotomy certifications are recommended.
